Thanks, Diane. I know the risk here, but believe, from the context of the piece focusing on dead and maimed children of Gaza, it's clear I'm taking issue with the Netanyahu government and its extreme right wing policies, and dehumanization of Palestinians. American Jews voted to support Harris by 80%, yet we, too, have to come to terms with the fact that the Israel of today, is NOT the Israel of 75 years ago, and that's the present day Israeli leadership is itself, against violative of the original charter which established Israel, and the fundamental teachings of Judaism. Netanyahu has stripped away any pretense that we Jews are the "chosen people." Chosen for what? Trump has stripped away any pretense that America is "exceptional". The sooner we come face-to-face with both of those delusions, the better off the world will be. My criticism of the actions and directions of both governments is neither anti-Semitic nor anti-American. Just pro-humanity.

Thanks, Rex. A painful Thanksgiving. The more I am grateful for, the more I want others to be as blessed as I; the more I hug my granddaughters, the more I want to hug all the children of the world, make them safe, and protect them from such horror.

It seems, Steve, that you’re a mensch and an empath who cares about and feels the pain of others. Sadly, many do not share or have a sense of our interconnectedness. Many, and we have learned who they are not only in OUR lives but in the world, are entirely transactional in their world view. They subscribe to the WIIFM mentality - “What’s In It For Me.” We see it in manifestations ranging from the political doctrine of “isolationism,” to a Prime Minister caring only for his political fortunes, to the ratification of a CBA where members’ votes were based upon, “What’s in it for me.” They’ve somehow lost, if they ever had it, the ability to feel another’s pain and to feel what the mother of a child who has lost both arms, feels.

HI Steve,

Thank you for this excellent piece of writing (poetry) about what we aren't thankful for. I would just take issue with calling out Jews re the Gaza war as the association betw Jews and the Netanyahu govt aren't the same but it is causing an great increase in antisemitism. Most Jews in this country are very against this war. I can't speak for Israel. I know you prob agree with me but I think it's very imp as to not to give fuel to antisemites. we'll call soon to reschedule! xoxo
